4 Simple Ways to Be a Better Gamer

Overwatch, Dota 2, PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS and League of Legends. These are just a few of the wide variety of games available. The number and types of games have grown considerably over the years, attracting avid fans from all over the world. These games can range from First Person Shooters (FPS), Real-Time Strategy (RTS), Mass Multiplayer Online (MMO) to Role Playing Games (RPG) and even educational games. If you are looking to improve your skills to impress your friends or simply to better yourself, here are 4 simple but effective ways to help you achieve your goal.

1. Practice, practice and practice!

While this may seem really intuitive, this can actually have a huge impact on your game play. Be warned however, you should not be playing the game just for the sake of playing it. There should be a clear objective in mind – to constantly improve. This includes analysing your own mistakes in game play and not blaming it on everyone else. However, there is a catch to this as well. Research has shown that players who play four to eight matches a week gained more skill than those who played eight to sixteen matches a week. This can actually prove that playing in moderation can be better in terms of learning efficiency.

2. Learn to communicate with your teammates

There are plenty of games such as Dota and Overwatch which require team play in order to succeed. As such, it is extremely crucial that you are able to communicate effectively with your team in order to ensure victory. At times, you may have equally skilled players or friends on your team but if each one of you has different ideas in mind, the team would inevitably crumble. In cases where your teammate makes a mistake, you should also not be quick to criticise them but instead assure them that everything will turn out fine and continue sticking to the game plan.

3. Watch streams or games from professional players

You can actually learn a great deal from watching and analysing the play styles or professional players. They are professional players for a reason after all, aren’t they? From their plays, you can learn the newest tricks/builds/meta that can be applied during your games to grant you an edge over your opponents. This is especially useful since most games are perpetually changing with balances and updates occurring every now and then.

4. Get better gaming gear

This point can be easily contested as it is indeed true that the skill level of a player plays a much larger role in determining the eventual outcome of the game. However, having the right kind of equipment can at times make a huge difference in your gameplay. For example, having a laptop with a faster response time or a mouse with additional binding keys can determine if you manage to survive in certain situations.

Try implementing these few steps in your next few games and you will experience a boost in your own gameplay. We wish you the best of luck in your future games! XD
