Netflix – the reason why video stores all over the world are going out of business or also known as the reason no one leaves their bed. Most of us would have just learnt about or subscribed to Netflix in the past 2 years, when the company rolled out a major (successful) international expansion. Some of us, myself included would think of Netflix as a new & refreshing platform to watch TV shows and movies. To my surprise, Netflix has actually been around since the 1990s and would be celebrating their 20th anniversary this August!
If you’re reading this article you probably already know that Netflix is a streaming service that allows subscribers to watch an impressive catalogue of TV shows & movies. It has recently launched offline playback which gives subscribers freedom to watch their programs even without an internet connection. Becoming a Netflix subscriber can either be the best or worst thing that has happened..
Here is a list of the best Netflix Original Shows worth an anti-social weekend (arranged in no significant order).
1. Stranger Things
This show came out midway 2016 and took us all by surprise. Even if you’re not a huge Sci-Fi & Fantasy fan, Stranger Things can compel you to finish the entire series in one sitting. The show follows the story of a group of 3 boys who search for their missing friend but discover peculiar happenings around their small town. Watch this Golden Globe nominated TV show, you won’t regret it.
Don’t we all love it when we see justice served? Daredevil is the first Marvel series that is exclusive to Netflix. Charlie Cox who plays the main lead, acts as a blind attorney by day and a crime-fighting masked vigilante at night. Theres enough action, on-screen violence & justice served to keep us coming back for more!
No matter guy or girl, almost everyone would have read or heard about Archie comics. The comic book depicts Archie & friends’ day-to-day lives in a fictional small town, Riverdale. The Netflix Original Show, Riverdale takes characters from the Archie Comics universe and turns their daily lives into a complete opposite of the light-hearted comic book. The entire show masks a dark theme, revolving murder, mystery, awful parents oh and good-looking teenagers. All the ingredients for a binge-worthy TV show.
4. 13 Reasons Why
There has been a lot of talk & debate on this series. Some are happy that there is finally a TV show that touches on sensitive social issues – bullying, depression, therapy, suicide. Others, not so as they feel these issues have not been portrayed accurately. Either way, everyone who had a say finished the entire season. Based on a best-selling book by Jay Asher, 13 Reasons Why follows a series of tapes left behind by Hannah Baker. Each side of the 7 tapes depicting a reason that pushed her to commit suicide. Give the show a watch and share your opinion with someone else!
